Cows are sacred
It is often expressed by our sants (saints) that without
two so important elements - none of our 16 sanskars or
sacraments could be undertaken or completed.
They are:
fruitful.
Lets look at this way: without milk, pure or shudh ghee will not be available and
without pure ghee, no havan yagh can be conducted.
Also important from a Gow Mata's milk is the need to a make Prasad/ sweet
offerings using either/or milk and ghee. Without milk, kheer (sweet rice or rice
pudding) will not possible.
Kheer is considered to be the most auspicious Prasad of all because of its origin
from milk and also because significance attached to kheer from the Sri Ram Avatar
(Tretha Yugh when Sri Ram and his three brothers, Laxman, Bharat and Shatrughan
were born after Agni Devta offered the holy Prasad of kheer to Sri Ram's father,
Rajah Dasrath to invoke pregnancy into his three wives) days.
There is also related katha and belief that Sri Hanuman was also born through
kheer offerings to Mata Anjana, although the same cannot be said about his five
other brothers, born to Keshri and Mata Anjana.
Lord Ram himself declared that one of his principal reasons for reincarnation is for
protection of Gow Mata after the Prithvi Devi, Mother personally took the form of
Gow Mata and pleaded with Lord Vishnu for him to take an avtaar and help
safeguard the Prithvi Lok from demons like, Ravana.
However, because of his status as King of Ajodhya, Lord Ram could not actively
promote Gow Mata and the importance of them in Sanatan Dharma, the universal
religion underlying Hinduism.
Due to Lord Ram's other crucial unfinished tasks, he left his campaign for
protection of Gow Mata to Dwapur Yugh when Sri Krishna arrived in Mathura.
Against a background of farming area in greater Vindravan region, Lord Krishna took
on himself to herd and safeguard Gow Matas.
Such was his fascination about Gow Matas, that he attained names like:
