Religious freedom
Members of our Australian Council of Hindu Clergy including Pandit
Davendra Sharma were asked to attend a panel from Prime Minister's Office and
Cabinet last Friday, February 23 2018.
On the main topic of discussion with the panel which was charged with
responsibility of finding out how we're affected or restricted with religious freedom.
Pdt Sharma was accompanied by Pdt Ramy Sivan, council public relations,
Pdt Athreiya Ramachandra, council secretary, Pdt Hrishikesh Bhattar,
council Vice President and Venkatraman Krishnamurthy, council
assistant secretary.
The PM's Office Expert Panel on Religious Freedom was led by former
federal government immigration minister Phillip Ruddock.
Among issues discussed including
1) difficulties with dealing with same gender marriage
2) recognition of Hindu groups as a religious denomination under federal
government register.
3) visas affecting religious worker permits
